Burlington - Burlington L.O. Report by Jennifer Nachbur, Burlington President (May 21, 2008)

We are proud to announcethat May Vermont Working
Woman Burlington's Job Expo on April 2 at the Sheraton Burlington was a huge success, according
to organizer and Burlington member Pat Nowak,
with a record number of exhibitors and more than 600 attendees over the course of the day. Our deepest thanks go to Pat for once again organizing this incredible event and fundraiser
for Burlington's scholarship fund and our gratitude to Nancy Moreland who coordinated the
volunteer staffing and all of the Burlington members who helped throughout the day.

Burlington held its election of officers and installation ceremoney at the April 9 business
meeting at the Sirloin Saloon in Shelburne. The 2008-09 officers are as follows:

Maria Millikin,President;
Leslie Higgins, President-Elect;
Caisil Weldon, Vice President;
MaryEllen Mendl, Secretary;
Kathryn Parker, Treasurer.
Auditors are Nancy Moreland and Mary Claire Carroll.

The installation ceremony, which was organized and hosted by past state and local president
Marie Eddy, featured a nautical theme, with Maria receiving a captains hat and her executive
board "mates" receiving sailor caps. A wonderful presentation on pay equity by Vermont Commission
on Women Executive Director, Wendy Love, followed
the ceremony.

We are looking forward to two great programs at our May and June meetings. Porter Knight, professional organizer and owner of Organized by Knight, will be the guest speaker at the May 14 meeting. Dr. Cheung Wong, Associate Professor of Medicine and Gynecologic Oncologist at UVM/Fletcher Allen, will talk about gynecologic cancer detection and treatment at the June 11 meeting.

I enjoyed my year as Burlington President immensely, but cannot believe how quickly the
year passed. My final board meeting was held at the Windjammer Restaurant on April 2 and despite the fact that we had a lot of fun, we were actually able to conduct some business. I am grateful for the work and support of my 2007-08 board and look forward to working with President, Maria Millikin as Public Relations committee chair for 2008-09.

With best regards,
Jennifer Nachbur
Immediate Past President,
Burlington BPW

Mid State - Mid-State L.O. Report by Lindy Hatcher, Mid-State President (May 21, 2008)

-State BPW is proud to have our first YC since before I joined in 2000. Ginger Maston will be competing at State Convention in hopes of representing Vermont at the national level in
Atlanta. April was a busy month! We had a small gathering with Rep. Sue Minter of Waterbury to discuss issues in the legislature that affect women, including the breastfeeding bill soon to cross the Governor’s desk for signature. Lindy representedMid-State and the Vermont Commission on Women at Equal Pay Day at the State House on April 22. Marcia made the most amazing chocolate chip almond cookies ever!

In May, we are having our Installation of Officers, New Member Recognition, and Planning Session for raising money for our scholarship fund. At Mid- State, we rely on the Job Expo money for scholarships and would like to create
an annual venture that would raise money for scholarships. We will explore two events: wine tasting and sponsoring a bingo night as they do in St. J.

June is an informal end-of-the-year potluck picnic at Lindy’s house in Montpelier! Remember to bring your swimsuits so you can jump in the pool and cool off during the hot June evening!

We are happy to announce that we will have a PR Chair next year, Ashley Hatcher, that will advertise our meetings, publicize our events, and get our meeting announcements in local paper
calendars and online. She will also upkeep
the Website. I’m thrilled!

Respectfully submitted,
Lindy Hatcher
President, Mid-State BPW
Vice President, VT BPW

St. Johnsbury - St. Johnsbury L.O. Report, Donna Heath, President (May 21, 2008)

Five St. Johnsbury BPW members attended the Spring meeting in Montpelier and thankfully accepted the Woman of the Year award for Pat Westover.

Several members worked on the food concession at the Rotary Bingo. St. Johnsbury earned $760.50 for the Scholarship fund. Food and supplies are donated by local businesses and various food
dishes, sandwiches and desserts are made by members.

The Merchants Bank has offered space at the bank for storage of the St. Johnsbury BPW files
which are spread out between current and past officer’s homes. We hope to gather all the material into one place to help ease transitions from officer to officer and to maintain a historical perspective of BPW.

Donna Heath
President
St. Johnsbury Business & Professional Women
