BPW Legislative Platform

Susan B Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton Preamble:

The Alice Paul Equal Rights Amendment shall stand first, foremost and above all other items which may appear on the state legislative platform of this Federation until equal, legal rights for women and men become guaranteed in the United States Constitution.

The Alice Paul Equal Rights Amendment: Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of sex.

Action Items:

Actively work to pass legislation that will ensure equal treatment of women in all areas of employment including the implementation of pay equity, the elimination of sexual harassment, and adequate retirement benefits for all women.

Actively work to pass legislation that guarantees reproductive freedom as a right for all women and to oppose any legislation that would reduce or eliminate these rights.

Actively work to promote equal education opportunity at all levels and to encourage young girls and women to study science, mathematics, and technology.

Actively work to strengthen and expand services and funding for public and private care for dependents of all ages.

Actively work to enforce legal protections for all individuals who are victims of domestic or sexual violence, promote services for survivors of violence, and pass legislation that will increase the rights of victims of violent crimes.

Policy Statements:

Advocate the placement of women in policy-making positions at all levels of government, and encourage women to take an active part in government.

Support the work of the Governor's Commission on Women.
