Saint Michael’s CollegeQueen Bees & Wannabes: Navigating the New Realities of Girl World and Boy World a talk by Rosalind Wiseman January 26th at 6:30McCarthy Arts CenterSaint Michael’s CollegeSeven years ago, Rosalind Wiseman’s New York Times best-selling book Queen Bees and Wannabes launched readers head-first into Girl World & Boy World — the place where teens face the everyday trials of frenemies, reputations, gossip, rebellion, bullying, crushes, and relationships. While these issues continue to play out among young people, recent advancements in technology and media have - for better or worse - profoundly altered the speed and ways in which boys and girls communicate. Humiliating photographs can spread around an entire school as fast as the click of a mouse; private conversations become public information when posted to Facebook; and kids are fed media messages everywhere from their cell phone texts to video games to YouTube. In this seminar, Wiseman guides you through transformations in the adolescent landscape over the past several years, outlined in the revised and updated edition of her groundbreaking book. Participants will learn concrete strategies for helping children navigate conflict ethically and with social competence.Sponsors: Saint Michael’s College, YWCA, 4-H, Girls’ Move Mountains, Regional Office of Women’s
